MANAGING INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY
Gaining a better understanding and application of Information Technology (IT), is one of the
most effective routes to
improved work processes.
Our coaching programmes are based upon many years practical experience.
They focus solely on transferring knowledge that can have a direct benefit

Board Members: Understanding the Issues
|
|
Too often company directors have side-stepped their
responsibilities for managing the IT investment by saying "that's an IT
issue, you decide. Don't bother me with these matters". They then complain that the IT
investment is too high and not enough business benefit is being delivered.
IT
managers find it difficult in these situations because they lack the tools to
hold a conversation that clearly links the IT investment to direct business benefit.
Experience has shown that it is possible to improve the impact of IT on business
performance by helping executives to take on their responsibility for directing
the IT investment. To do this you must provide them with the
appropriate tools, techniques, vocabulary and understanding. Our programme goes
a long way towards improving management's understanding of the issues around IT
strategy and investment. It helps establish a common language between IT professionals
and their business colleagues.
Most organisations begin with a small pilot project, to ensure that the education
programme is properly aligned with the needs of the organisation. Next it is recommended
that very senior managers, preferably board level, attend the education programme.
Their endorsement will help encourage others in the organisation to attend, and
will neutralise potential blockers. This is then the time to begin a general roll-out
across the organisation, and to begin reaping the benefits.

Business & IT Managers: Matching Supply and Demand
|
|
Our research has shown that the following questions
encapsulate the feelings of many customers of IT departments:
Why can't I see a clear relationship between what I use and what I pay?
Why can't I get effective, consistent and reliable service & support?
Why does it have to cost so much?
There is a sense of frustration behind these questions: Why does it all have to
be so difficult? Why can't it all just work? Why is it so expensive when it doesn't
work well anyway?
We believe that IT Service Providers are working harder and harder to satisfy
their customers, but they are meeting the same customer frustration time and again.
Are the Service Providers incompetent, and incapable of meeting the needs of the
business?
Our work has shown that generally this is not the case - there are customers with
genuine business needs and capable service providers anxious to meet the needs.
What is missing is an alignment between the business needs and the way in which
IT services are being provided. This programme establishes a direct correlation
between demand and supply, resulting in substantially improved relationships and
cost savings.

| Staff: Getting Value from Information Technology
|
|
Whilst frequent users of computer software will learn most of the basic
functions, they will develop skills in less than 10% of the advanced features.
The result is inefficiency, wasted effort and increased costs.
Similarly, it is not unusual to find offices where the processes, procedures,
personnel skills and computing facilities have grown completely out of alignment.
Result? More inefficiency, wasted effort and increased costs!
Classroom training can only go so far - information overload quickly takes hold,
and rarely is there time for new skills to be adopted in the workplace.
Our coaching takes place on-site. First of all we listen (your staff are
the best people to know how
to do their job better - but they will say "nobody listens to us round
here..."). We assess the business
processes, workflows, skills, computer facilities and network infrastructure;
then we identify the opportunities to improve performance; and then we coach to deliver to the bottom line.
